Train him to do the different job of interest at least part of the time or share a clear timeline of when he would be able to work with customers.

Inclusion training for this individual needs to be around socializing with guests because this is a skill he already has. BCBA should alter the program/placement from stalker to store greeter or check out attendant.

The job coach should develop a self-monitoring program for John, to help him stay on task. John should learn to pick up on environmental cues and routines (learn when he should be stocking shelves and when it is ok to talk to others).

The person needs to be able to be in a placement that they enjoy and will thrive in.

Program supports are needed

Adaptations are needed

Staff should identify jobs that are aligned with his interests and skills.

The young man should complete a specific contingency in the shelf-stocking before being given a break to talk to customers. Then, he can be given the opportunity to train for cashier if he can learn the tasks.

Determine learner's ability to manage register and train as needed (with focus on keeping customer interactions brief). Offer transition opportunity such as starting learner as bagger at register. Offer opportunities to engage socially with fellow employees.

Work with John's team to identify a position that better fits his interests.

Self monitoring and reinforcement for completing task
opportunities for peer interaction built into schedule

Social acceptance / making friends
Cooperative learning
Incorporating interests into social opportunities
Social validation of how peers act, what they talk about

Provide him with more structure like a schedule and task list and include opportunities to interact with customers in appropriate ways.

Learning environmental cues

find job that allows for more social interaction
teach job protocols

Work with the individual and staff to find a diferrent context to work within the grocery store. Maybe a greeter, or asst to the cashier, use his strengths and wants to find a better role for the community based job
