He would be more successful if his job was tied to his interests. He may also need some support in learning when it is appropriate for him to socialize at work. He needs help in learning social cues in the environment and the behavioral expectations at the job site. A change in his position may give him the opportunity to socialize but he needs to understand when it is appropriate to interact and socialize.

Perhaps a better fit is bagging groceries so he has more social interactions. Seems like he needs more social skills training to pick up cues when other people are busy.
