It is possible that this environment is not the best choice for John- if he is easily distracted by people, perhaps he should either be placed in a position where there are less distractions, or where talking to people is part of his job. If that is not possible, it should be recommended to do an ecological assessment to determine what the job entails and use BST to target specific skills. We can teach John strategies for re-engaging after becoming distracted and teach him self-monitoring skills for determining how much time he should be spending in conversation vs. completing his tasks.
