Conflicts of Interest – Situations where personal, financial, or organizational interests may influence clinical decisions, potentially compromising ethical integrity
Dual Relationships – Clients, caregivers, or staff attempting to establish personal or business relationships outside of the professional setting, which can impair objectivity and professional boundaries
Conflicting opinions between professionals
An ethical issue I have encountered as a consultant is a school team expressing their recommendation for behavioral therapy but refusing to provide space or welcome behaviour therapists into their school to provide behavior therapy to a learner who needs support developing behaviours needed to be successful in school.
An expectation in a school setting to practice outside my scope of expertise (i.e. students with mental health or medical needs, toilet training)
More client observations, collect data,
Organizations having different ethics/standards
Plans or recommendations not being followed correctly
Having to let clients go due to breaking agreed contract
lack of trained staff
lack of adequate safe area for client to decompress
Nothing more
being asked to work outside my scope of practice
In schools, I have run into situations where union contracts create barriers to training and implementation time when staff are hesitant to implement a plan. Ethically, the lack of opportunity train also causes me concern.
Conflict of opinion between parents and school team recommendations
Being expected to develop an intervention without a thoughtful and thorough analysis of the problem.
Trying to meet billing requirements and sacrificing quality supervision.
Roles and responsibilities during collaboration
As last resort, our team used cpi. Client Thought cpi hold was too harsh.
Not enough time for for quality supervision time
Implementation and follow up- when you work in education system and are not responsible for programming and are under the supervision of a Superintendent with no background/experience with ABA
less of refusal, but staff lack skills and qualifications to implement, sometimes basic, interventions and procedures. Time is limited in staff training.
Unsure
Working with others who have very little ABA training (e.g., paras, teachers, etc.) and districts expecting them to implement behavior intervention plans with minimal consult services being provided.
Given a case with too many variables that interfere with ABA being effective.
Dual relationships/conflicts of interest
