Training consists of many components, which will raise questions about which training components produced the change in the learners. Breaking the training into its components (a component analysis) and using a nonconcurrent multiple baseline across participants design isolates the controlling variables of each participant’s skill acquisition. This way, researchers may make assertions about the relative impact of a particular training component.
With regard to application, its use provides options for clinicians to layer training components to ensure each participants is only receiving the training they need, and the trainer is allocating their time to those who need it most.
