About this Course
The importance of follow-through is valued in ABA texts and research. When a contingency is stated, follow-through ensures that the relationship between the discriminative stimulus and consequence will be strengthened and, following several trials, learning will occur.
The importance of the functional approach to behavior change is also very important to the field of ABA. A functional analysis is the first step in approaching problem behavior and the function-based treatment procedure follows.
Escape-motivated behaviors present unique circumstances for consideration. Unlike other functions, escape-motivated behavior will require follow-through to prevent escape during extinction. Escape extinction is a hands-on approach that warrants a fresh look in this age of hands-off policies.
Research demonstrations of interventions without extinction have been plentiful in recent years and provide many tools for consideration.
The purpose of this course is to
- Consider the risks associated with escape extinction
- Review the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts with regard to escape extinction
- Review recent research demonstrations that provide alternatives to extinction
